MatScouts adds Catrabone to the loaded 165 list
Justin Basch counted six former Super 32 champions at the weight, and MatScouts says there is a seventh name worth adding.
MatScoutWillie (@matscouts1) added a seventh name to the 165 pile, replying to Justin Basch's list of past Super 32 champions projected at the weight this season. His addition is Catrabone, who was a Super 32 finalist rather than a champion. That takes the group to six titlists plus a finalist in one college weight class.
Basch's original count, which we covered earlier, had PJ Duke, Joey Blaze, Nicco Ruiz, Dee Lockett, LJ Araujo and Will Denny all projected at 165. Between those six, Basch counted eight Super 32 titles and three Outstanding Wrestler awards. That is multiple titles for at least a couple of them, and hardware from the deepest high school tournament in the country concentrated at one spot in the lineup.
What the count actually means
Super 32 is the one national high school event where the brackets look like a college weight class, so a title there travels. Six of them landing in the same college weight in the same season is the whole argument Basch is making, and MatScouts' reply is not a correction so much as a raise. The reply was two words and an addition.
Nobody in the thread has sorted the group into a projected order of finish. Basch posed it as a question to his followers and pointed at what comes next instead of answering it himself.
What to watch
MatScouts' final preseason Crystal Ball was set to drop the morning after Basch's post, per Basch, who said he would break it down on Basch & The Brain. That is where the first real ranking of these names against each other should show up.
Our take, the count is the easy part. The interesting question is how many of those six are actually at 165 when the season starts, because projected weights and certified weights are not the same thing, and a list this crowded tends to thin out.
SIX! + Catrabone who was a finalist.
Is 165 the most loaded weight in college wrestling this year?
