Lilledahl goes for back-to-back U23 World titles at 57kg
Penn State's Luke Lilledahl chases a second straight U23 World title at 57kg in Las Vegas this week, per Justin Basch. Basch says the reigning NCAA champion at 125 already owns World gold at U17, U20 and U23, and has reached the gold medal match at all five age-group World Championships he has entered. He opens Saturday.
Five age-group World Championships. Five gold medal matches.
Why it matters: A second U23 gold would make Lilledahl the clear US 57kg freestyle heir on the Senior ladder.
- Lilledahl opens Saturday, medal matches Sunday at 4 p.m. ET
What they're arguing about
Basch asks if college 165 is the most loaded weight
Justin Basch floated 165 as the deepest weight in college wrestling, counting six past Super 32 champions projected there: PJ Duke, Joey Blaze, Nicco Ruiz, Dee Lockett, LJ Araujo and Will Denny. Basch says that group owns eight Super 32 titles and three Outstanding Wrestler awards between them. MatScoutWillie added Catrabone, a Super 32 finalist, to the pile.
SIX! + Catrabone who was a finalist.
Why it matters: One of these seven ends the season with the 165 national title and the rest do not.
