The 2020 Olympic champion went in as a heavy betting favorite and did not make it out standing.
Sean Sharaf knocked Gable Steveson out cold, per the UFC on Paramount+ account, which posted the finish with the caption "THAT. JUST. HAPPENED."
Justin Basch flagged the betting line afterward. "Gable was a 25-to-1 favorite. Wow," Basch posted. That is the number that makes the result land, a heavyweight who was priced as close to a lock by the books getting put to sleep.
The reaction from the wrestling side was less about the knockout than about the man throwing punches. Adam Tirapelle posted a February 2025 comparison of Steveson and said he no longer resembles the athlete who won two NCAA titles' worth of attention on the mat. "I hate to say this but Gable doesn't even look like the same body from his college wrestling days," Tirapelle wrote, attaching the older image.

Our take. The 25-to-1 number is the story here more than the knockout itself. Oddsmakers were treating Steveson's amateur pedigree as something close to a guarantee inside the cage, and Sharaf just made that pricing look silly.
