Sam Howard out of Super 32 at 215 with injury

The top seed at 215 is off the bracket, and nobody has said what the injury is.

Sam Howard, the No. 1 seed at 215 pounds for Super 32, is out with an injury, per Justin Basch. Basch tagged MatScouts in the post and asked them to update the seeds. That pulls the top line off one of the heavier brackets at the biggest high school folkstyle tournament of the fall.

No one has said what the injury is, how long Howard is expected to be out, or whether the seeds have actually been redone. Basch's post is the only report of the scratch so far.

MatScouts answers in two words

The reply from the MatScouts account, posted under the name MatScoutWillie, was short.

"shut up"

That is the entire response. There has been no follow up from either account explaining whether the seeding update is coming.

Another name off the 215 board

Howard joins a list of Super 32 names that has been shrinking all week. Keegan Bassett, Picket and both Silva brothers were already out of the field before this one.

Super 32 seeds matter mostly for how the bracket splits, and losing the top line at 215 means everyone below Howard moves up a slot and the quarterfinal pairings shift. For the wrestlers chasing a Super 32 title at the weight, the clearest obstacle in the bracket is gone before a whistle.

Our take: a No. 1 seed scratching the week of the event is the kind of thing that usually surfaces through a reporter rather than an announcement, which is exactly how this one came out.

Watch for a corrected 215 bracket from MatScouts, and for any word on whether Howard's injury costs him more than this weekend.
