Turner, Leydecker and Welker make U23 women's semifinals

Three American women reached the U23 World semifinals on day three in Las Vegas, per USA Wrestling. Morgan Turner at 50kg, Everest Leydecker at 55kg and Kylie Welker at 76kg all came through the early session, with semifinal action set for 4.45 p.m. PT.

Isabella Mir is still alive at 68kg and eligible for repechage. Alexis Janiak is the one American out of the first women's freestyle group, eliminated from medal contention at 59kg.

Four in the quarters, three through

Before the round, Christian Pyles had the US with four quarterfinalists and liked what he saw from all of them.

"Morgan Turner, Everest Leydecker, Bella Mir and Kylie Welker all look great," Pyles posted, noting the round was going live on FloWrestling.

Three of those four converted. Mir did not, but her path is not closed, since the repechage keeps a bronze medal in play for her at 68kg.

What it means

The US has three live gold medal matches to chase in one evening session in the first women's freestyle group of the tournament, which is the kind of start that sets up a team race rather than a salvage job. Welker at 76kg and Turner at 50kg bookend the group, so the Americans are producing at both ends of the weight ladder.

It is a different look from the Greco side of the same event, where four Americans were teched out of the quarterfinals and pushed into repechage earlier in the week.

Nobody has reported the semifinal opponents yet, so the matchups are the next thing to watch.

Things to watch

Semifinals at 50kg, 55kg and 76kg start at 4.45 p.m. PT in Las Vegas, with all three Americans in the evening session.

Mir's repechage at 68kg, which is the only remaining medal route for the fourth US quarterfinalist in this group.
