Pyles defends Flo ranking Henson fourth at 149

Christian Pyles spent a chunk of Monday defending FloWrestling's 149-pound folkstyle rankings, which have Caleb Henson fourth, against Virginia Tech fan Tass Robertson.
Robertson opened by calling the placement disrespectful, noting Henson was runner-up at the US Open and is fourth in Flo's NCAA rankings. Pyles' reply was simple, asking Robertson to rank the top four at 149 himself. Robertson said he would not start with the Oklahoma State freshman and that he would put Henson first until somebody beats him.

Pyles laid out the resumes. Sergio Vega is an undefeated NCAA champ with a win over Jesse Mendez. Valencia is the returning champ. Shayne Van Ness beat Henson the last time they wrestled. And Henson's NCAA title came in 2024.

Robertson conceded pieces of it and pushed back on the rest, pointing out that Vega is up a weight and that Valencia lost the ACC final to Henson's backup. His bigger argument was the senior-level work, that Henson has been killing it in freestyle and Flo gives him nothing for his last year. He also flagged his own bias, saying he is a Virginia Tech fan.
Pyles answered that one with the methodology. Flo does not factor freestyle results into folkstyle rankings, only NCAA results. He also claimed the fandom high ground, writing that he has been a Virginia Tech wrestling fan longer than just about anyone.
The part that will actually annoy people
Then Pyles posted What if Sergio stayed at 141? with a grimace emoji, which is the scenario that blows up the top of two weights at once rather than just one.
Our take: the freestyle carve-out is the whole disagreement. Robertson is ranking a wrestler on how he looks right now at the senior level, Flo is ranking a body of NCAA work, and Henson's title is two seasons old.
Watch for whether Vega actually lands at 149 for Oklahoma State, and for a Henson and Van Ness rematch that would settle at least one line of the argument on the mat.
