Snyder rallies from four down, beats Yoshida 4-4 for 97kg gold
Two takedowns in the final 30 seconds flipped the 97kg final in Astana.
Kyle Snyder is a World champion again at 97kg, beating Japan's Arash Yoshida 4-4 on criteria in the final in Astana. He was down four late and scored two takedowns inside the last 30 seconds, per FloWrestling. USA Wrestling called it World title No. 5 and World medal No. 9 for Snyder.
Christian Pyles counted it differently in the moment, posting "SIX TITLES FOR KYLE SNYDER!!!" Shane Sparks also put six gold medals in his post. USA Wrestling and FloWrestling both stuck with five World titles.
How it finished
The scoreline tells the whole story. Yoshida held a four point cushion with under 30 seconds on the clock, and Snyder got to the legs twice in that window to tie it at 4-4 and take the criteria win on last score.
The bracket he came through
Snyder's draw in Astana had been flagged early when the brackets landed and Abdulrashid Sadulaev was placed in his quarter of the 97kg bracket.
The gold adds to a US run in Astana that already included Adaugo Nwachukwu's 62kg title and a finals berth for Bo Bassett.
