Amine and Valencia reach Sargsyan Cup finals in Armenia
Zahid Valencia won every match 10-0 at 86kg while Cam Amine went 3-0 at 74kg on day one in Armenia.
Cam Amine and Zahid Valencia both wrestled their way into the finals of the Stepan Sargsyan Cup in Armenia on day one, per Jon Kozak. Amine went 3-0 at 74kg and drew Imam Ganishov of Russia for gold, while Valencia gets Askhab Khadzhiyev of Kazakhstan at 86kg. Both finals go tomorrow.
Valencia did not give anyone a point. Justin Basch wrote that he "ragdolled everyone 10-0," and Kozak posted the semifinal clip with the note that it did not last long.
McKenna alive in repechage, Delaney out
Joey McKenna lost 8-0 at 65kg to Abasgadzhi Magomedov of Russia, who Basch identifies as the 2021 World champ and 2023 World silver medalist. USA Wrestling confirmed McKenna was pulled back into tomorrow's repechage rounds and remains in medal contention.
Killian Delaney went 0-1 at 57kg, dropping an 11-0 match to Amir Chamzyn of Russia. Kozak said Delaney is eliminated.
What to watch
Amine vs Ganishov at 74kg and Valencia vs Khadzhiyev at 86kg, both tomorrow, plus McKenna's repechage path at 65kg.
Zahid ragdolled everyone 10-0, and he'll have Askhab Khajiyev of Kazakhstan in the Finals tomorrow.
